Portsmouth Communications engineers worked closely with the accommodation and IT department to relocate and add to existing IT network and electrical services. This involved moving (literally) hundreds of service poles with Cat5e outlets and power sockets in to a more structured layout to enable floor space to be utilised in the most effective way.
All work was completed outside of normal working hours to enable PCC staff to work uninterrupted during the day.
Since the main part of this project was completed we have network cabled the entire Civic Offices for their corporate and guest wireless networks.
New projects include adding a diverse fibre optic network route for new connectivity resilience and installing fibre on behalf of BT to enable commercial tenancy.
Due to major budget cuts over the last few years Portsmouth City Council (PCC) have completed major internal reorganisations in order to save money. This has involved transferring many staff into the main council building (Civic Offices) from remote locations.
At the start of project the IT network and electrical services were randomly located throughout this extensive 6 floor building.
